From Akamai:
Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor & Storage Products Company leverages Akamai solutions to improve global website performance
Akamai helps company solve access issues accompanying consolidation of global websites
Tokyo, Japan – February 17, 2015 – Chuo-ku, Tokyo-based Akamai Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), a leading provider of cloud services for delivering, optimizing, and securing online content and business applications, announced today that Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor & Storage Products Company has chosen Akamai's Web Performance Solutions to improve access-speed issues in conjunction with the consolidation of the company's global websites. The company has marketing locations in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and elsewhere around the world, as well as in Japan.
Before the consolidation, the subsidiaries of Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor & Storage Products Company around the world ran their own websites locally, but this setup presented problems like inconsistency in brand image and information. To ensure a more consistent communication across markets, Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor & Storage Products Company integrated its previously disparate infrastructure to a consolidated website and centralized information and content related to brand-image and domain names. Doing this led to a few problems, one of them being sluggish response time when people around the world tried to access information located on the centralized servers. To speed up user access and website performance, Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor & Storage Products Company chose Akamai's Ion solution that delivered dramatic results once deployed. Overall, website performance and load time has improved ten-fold on average, compared to pre-deployment load times.
Akamai's Ion suite tightly integrates web delivery, access acceleration, and other optimization technologies to automatically optimize visitors' web experience in real time based on situational variables from network conditions to user device, location, and browser. Ion is designed to deliver fast web experiences: It simplifies ever-more-complex web delivery while ensuring high availability and security, and its scalability allows it to accommodate any peak-time load.
"We're very happy, not only that Ion delivered on its promise to improve access speeds, but also with how smoothly the deployment went," said Yoichi Inoue of Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor & Storage Products Company. "The volume of content just keeps on growing, so we want to have a ready a platform that enables customers get quick access to the information they need, which means we need to give them mobile access as well. Leveraging Akamai's Web Performance Solutions lets us do that."
"We are pleased to have the opportunity to help Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor & Storage Products Company solve the issues arising from its web-infrastructure consolidation," said Akamai GK's President Shinji Tokunaga. "Akamai is committed to contributing to customers' businesses by delivering a faster, safer, and more reliable Internet."
