At EMC World 2012, EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC) today introduced its largest-ever wave of new transformative products and technologies–42 in total. Today's announcements mark the company's most significant single-day launch of new capabilities for customers and partners, delivering a sweeping refresh that spans key products across its entire information storage, backup, virtualization and management portfolio. As a result, EMC is taking IT efficiency and agility to new levels within both traditional and virtualized data centers. New Product and Technology Highlights
  • The new EMC® VMAX® Family—consisting of the VMAX 10K, VMAX 20K and the VMAX 40K—is a comprehensive lineup of enterprise storage arrays. Complementing the new EMC VMAX Family is a host of new software capabilities that streamline operations and extend the market-proven VMAX to new hosts and applications, while integrating customers' existing storage assets into an integrated and unified pool of storage resources.
  • EMC is readying the next version of its industry-leading EMC® Isilon OneFS® scale-out NAS operating system, code named "Mavericks." File-based, unstructured data represents the fastest-growing component of today's enterprise data centers. To better support customers as they address the associated issues, OneFS will incorporate new levels of data protection, security, system performance and interoperability.
  • EMC announced new VNX® unified storage enhancements that transform the midrange storage market. The new channel-only VNXe®3150 delivers 50% more performance and capacity per rack unit. New VNX software lowers the starting price for Flash, delivers single-click application protection, and simplifies management in virtualized environments. In related news, EMC and VMware today extended their partnership to develop, sell and deliver storage analytics for VNX unified storage.

  • The newcombination of EMC VPLEX™ virtual storage with EMC RecoverPoint™ data protection is defining a new standard for Hybrid Cloud availability and protection. This combination delivers the industry's first solution to combine active-active data centers with third site disaster recovery protection.
  • EMC introduced a new suite of enhancements to the EMC Atmos® Cloud platform that transform the way service providers and enterprises manage Big Data in large, globally-distributed cloud storage environments. EMC also announced new Atmos Cloud Accelerators that make it even easier and faster to move data in and out of Atmos-powered clouds.
  • New EMC DataBridge™ enterprise management tool empowers IT operations teams with "single-pane of glass" management to easily build customizable dashboards for delivering ITaaS. With DataBridge customers will have real-time IT infrastructure management data at their finger-tips.
In addition, last week EMC introduced the EMC VMAX Service Provider (VMAX SP), a new platform that is purpose-built to deliver enterprise-class storage to service providers using a simple-to-consume and simple-to-manage approach. At EMC World 2012, EMC (NYSE:EMC) today announced the new EMC VMAX Family, consisting of the VMAX 10K, VMAX 20K and the newest member of the family, the VMAX 40K. The new EMCVMAX Family is a comprehensive lineup of enterprise storage arrays, all built upon the industry-leading Virtual Matrix Architecture first introduced in April 2009. Complementing the new EMC VMAX Family is a host of new software capabilities that streamline operations and extend the market-proven VMAX to new hosts and applications, while integrating customers' existing storage assets into an integrated and unified pool of storage resources. Combined, the scalable EMC VMAX Family offers the most powerful, most trusted, smartest and most efficient enterprise information infrastructure for deploying Hybrid Clouds.
The EMC VMAX Family is anchored by the new VMAX 40K, a revolutionary new product that establishes new maximums for performance, capacity and scale in the enterprise storage market. Delivering as much as 3X more performance and 2X the usable capacity of any other enterprise storage product, the VMAX 40K is optimized to support hyper-consolidation of the world's most demanding big data, transaction processing, analytics and cloud computing applications.
Customers are increasingly moving toward a Hybrid Cloud model—which delivers the flexibility and choice to store and serve information within the cloud, while maintaining control over their mission critical applications.   • More Powerful
    • Leveraging up to 32 2.8GHz Intel® Xeon® 6-core processors, as much as 2TB of mirrored (1TB usable) and ECC-protected DDR3 DRAM, and twice as much internal fabric bandwidth as the original EMC VMAX, the new VMAX 40K delivers unmatched levels of performance and scale. With more than 3X the sustained cache-miss bandwidth and 2X the total IOPS than any competing array, the EMC VMAX 40K is truly in a class of its own.
    • VMAX 40K supports up to 4PB of usable capacity, 2X the VMAX 20K's 2PB usable and nearly 3X the 1.5PB usable capacity of the VMAX 10K. The new High Density option for the VMAX 40K utilizes 2.5" SAS drives to support up to 3.2PBu in a footprint that is a 1/3 smaller and uses 1/3 less power than the equivalent configuration using 3.5" drives.
    • New 2.5" eMLC (Multi-Level Cell) Enterprise Flash Drives (EFD) deliver the performance, reliability and life expectancy of SLC-based EFDs, at a lower price than comparable 3.5" SLC EFDs. Available initially only on VMAX 40K high-density configurations, these new eMLC EFDs allow customers to build FAST VP configurations that cost-effectively utilize more Flash and more nearline capacity to improve both $/GB and $/IOPS.
  • More Trusted
    • Federated Tiered Storage (FTS) provides active data integrity checking on all data in external arrays to protect against silent data corruption. Such corruption can occur in arrays that do not provide integrity validation of their own. EMC VMAX and EMC VNX families natively implement stringent integrity assurances—functionality that is exclusive to EMC.
    • FAST hinting to remote replica devices ensures proper data layout for optimal performance in the event of a fail-over / fail-back event—functionality that is exclusive to EMC.
    • EMC RecoverPoint for EMC VMAX delivers enterprise-class heterogeneous local and remote replication of EMC VMAX with point-in-time recovery. This provides t he flexibility to replicate to/from heterogeneous storage combined with point-in-time recovery for the entire EMC VMAX Family—as well as EMC VPLEX virtual storage ( see related news). This functionality is exclusive to EMC.
  • Smarter
    • The new Federated Tiered Storage enables customers to consolidate and simplify management and operations of their disparate storage assets. By putting heterogeneous storage arrays behind EMC VMAX, customers can now use trusted Symmetrix SRDF and TimeFinder software for business continuity, FAST VP for improved performance, and others to extend the life and value of existing storage arrays in the data center.
    • FAST VP for mainframe count-key data (CKD) volumes, affording the performance, economic and scale benefits of FAST VP to mainframe-based workloads and applications.
    • Virtual Provisioning and FAST VP for IBM i (D910 formatted devices)—prior limited to scaling performance with only 15K rpm devices, EMC VMAX is the first storage platform to bring the benefits of thin provisioning and automated tiering to IBM i customers. This functionality is exclusive to EMC.
    • The latest version of EMC ProSphere® delivers the ability to manage storage, server and network resources through a single pane of glass. ProSphere now reports on host capacity use by FAST policy to enhance reporting in FAST VP environments. ProSphere will also show external capacity imported through FTS providing a single management console for analyzing and reporting on all capacity consumed across the data center including VMAX and external federated capacity.
  • More Efficient
    • The new Unisphere for EMC VMAX is an advanced management interface that simplifies and streamlines storage operations and management while providing a common look and experience across the entire EMC VMAX Family as well as EMC VNX Family, EMC VPLEX, and RecoverPoint products. Unisphere for EMC VMAX is easier, faster, and more intuitive, while providing EMC VMAX administrators with comprehensive real-time utilization and performance monitoring.
    • New ProSphere integrated support for FAST VP utilization monitoring and policy-based charge-back—functionality that is exclusive to EMC.
All of these new products, features and capabilities are shipping now and will be introduced to EMC World attendees through a combination of keynote addresses, engineering-led product sessions, trade show demonstrations and hands-on Labs running on EMC's Demo Cloud.

At EMC World 2012, EMC (NYSE:EMC) today announced that the powerful new combination of EMCVPLEX virtual storage with EMC RecoverPoint data protection is defining a new standard for Hybrid Cloud availability and protection. This new combination delivers the industry's first solution to combine active-active data centers with third site disaster recovery protection, affording customers the high availability benefits of VPLEX AccessAnywhere™ cache coherency technology and the comprehensive ProtectEverywhere™ of RecoverPoint across all EMC and non-EMC block storage.
With 40% more performance, new performance monitoring and 2X the scale of previous versions, EMC VPLEX delivers customers mobility, availability and collaboration to be deployed to an even greater number of IT environments—including VMware vSphere and Oracle RAC. VPLEX distributed virtual storage simplifies virtual environments, by enabling the same data to be accessible simultaneously across virtual servers. These new VPLEX features enable VPLEX virtual storage to be managed directly from VMware vSphere further streamlining management in virtual environments.
As customers increasingly take advantage of the flexibility and choice to store and serve information with a Hybrid Cloud, these new EMC VPLEX and RecoverPoint capabilities combine to deliver the mobility, availability and data protection required to transform their IT environments to take advantage of the Hybrid Cloud.

VPLEX can now deliver customers new levels of:
High Availability
  • RecoverPoint now protects the entire EMC storage portfolio including the VMAX Family, the VNX Series and VPLEX (Local and Metro)—with protection. Customers can now leverage RecoverPoint's continuous data protection capabilities with VPLEX to provide copies of their production data for fast, efficient, and up-to-the-second recovery in the event of a data corruption issue. Customers can also leverage RecoverPoint continuous local replication and continuous remote replication to protect their data from site disasters.
  • In VMware environments, new integration of VPLEX and RecoverPoint enables maximum flexibility for data protection and high availability of virtual machines. VPLEX delivers customers easy, ongoing data mobilityfor virtual machines. Now, the powerful combination of VPLEX with RecoverPoint and VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager™ delivers predictable and ordered disaster recovery, and restart of virtual machines. This is backed by VMware's certification of RecoverPoint and VPLEX Local and Metro.
  • RecoverPoint provides cost-effective, local continuous data protection and continuous local and remote replication of data with any-point-in-time data recovery. RecoverPoint brings databases and applications back online quickly and easily after an event like data corruption. Increased Performance
  • VPLEX is delivering increased integration for virtual environments to provide a complete picture for easy management of both the virtualized server and storage environments directly from vSphere through new integration with vSphere Storage APIs for Storage Awareness (VASA) and vSphere VAAI.
  • VPLEX now delivers up to 40% more performance on currently-deployed platforms—without requiring any additional investment in hardware, and 2X the scale with the ability to support up to 1,600 host initiators per VPLEX configuration.
  • Recently certified support for Oracle RAC enables multi-site active/active RAC deployments over up to 100 Kilometers, maintaining full synchronization and continuous operations in the event of a site failure.
Simplified Management
  • EMC Unisphere simplifies management with an intuitive user interface, which now supports EMC's complete storage portfolio including EMC VMAX Family, VPLEX, and the EMC VNX Family. Unisphere for VPLEX provides customers with the same EMC-standard look and feel. It provides a way to simplify, normalize, and consolidate EMC's management tools to make it easier for our customers to management their environments.
