Dear Mrs. Clinton: If you Need Assistance with Your Email Security, We're Here to Help | Fortinet Blog

It's only been a few days since the story broke that Hillary Rodham Clinton used her own server to send and receive emails while she was Secretary of State. I'll leave speculation about her motives for not using a government email address to the political pundits. There are a few questions about this whole thing that bother me far more than any potential scandal, although I'm sure we'll be hearing about it ad nauseum in the run up to 2016 elections if Hillary chooses to run.
Let's start with the biggie: why on Earth would America’s top diplomat be allowed to use a private email account for official correspondence? She's not the first one, either: Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice both used private email accounts during their tenures as Secretary of State (although not exclusively as Clinton did). Several years ago, I taught in a public high school and I wasn't even allowed to use a private email account for corresponding with parents. The only way we could guarantee proper archiving and security was to use a school account specifically set up for those purposes. I wasn't negotiating with North Korea or trying to establish peace in the Middle East, I was teaching math. Again, I’ll leave speculation about the origins of this policy (or the lack thereof) to the pundits.
