Ferrotec Increases Scalability, Flexibility and Performance While Reducing TCO with the Combination of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Enterprise Linux

RALEIGH, NC –July 26, 2012 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Ferrotec, a global market leader in technologies based on the magnetic liquid Ferrofluid that is used in multi-phase motors, dampers for shaft ends and transformer cooling, has deployed Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization at the core of its infrastructure. Through this Red Hat technology combination, Ferrotec is increasing scalability, flexibility and performance while lowering operating costs.

Headquartered in Japan, the Ferrotec Group also has a large presence throughout Europe. In line with the company’s growth and additional business requirements, its IT infrastructure expanded with the purchase of new servers and an increase in memory capacity. As the company's IT systems peaked, performance began to decrease, creating the need for a modern technology infrastructure to meet Ferrotec’s business demands.

In mid 2011, Ferrotec’s legacy systems and IT infrastructure could only be administrated with major effort. Therefore, Ferrotec’s IT team, together with its core management team, embarked on a fundamental modernization and transition to a virtualized infrastructure.

Ferrotec assessed possible alternative solutions together with GONICUS, an IT service provider out of Arnsberg, Germany, that has been working for Ferrotec for many years. GONICUS, a Red Hat Advanced Partner, specializes in infrastructure and virtualization strategy, and is one of the largest independent service providers for open source software in Germany. As Ferrotec began planning its migration strategy, one of the critical requirements for the new infrastructure was to continue the existing installation based on Linux. Ferrotec found what it was looking for from OpenV3 from Magirus, one of Europe’s leading providers of IT solutions and a value-added distributor of Red Hat, based in Stuttgart. OpenV3 includes solutions from Cisco, EMC and Red Hat in a best-of-breed strategy that combines into an infrastructure package that can be implemented rapidly.

Ferrotec’s new IT infrastructure has reaped several important benefits in areas such as administration, maintenance and service, especially when compared to its former, heterogeneous infrastructure. By consolidating its server landscape, Ferrotec is anticipating lower operating costs as the same number of staff can supervise a larger number of systems and applications.

Belgian Weather Forecaster Selects Red Hat Virtualization Technology and Achieves Cost Savings and Minimizes Downtime

RALEIGH, NC – July 25, 2012 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that the Belgian Royal Meteorological Institute (KMI) has migrated to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. This deployment is expected to provide considerable cost savings by optimizing the efficiency of the organization’s existing servers.

KMI provides weather forecasts by analyzing large amounts of meteorological data. Due to the nature of its services, KMI relies heavily on its IT environment and therefore requires a highly available, around-the clock infrastructure. An advocate of open source solutions, it had been a satisfied Red Hat Enterprise Linux customer for six years before deciding to virtualize its systems and applications on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization.

The aim of the project was to optimize the organization’s use of technology resources and simplify the execution of activities, including systems management, testing developments, migration and new applications introduction. KMI chose Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization due to the benchmark results achieved with the solution’s Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor technology.

Migration to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization will allow KMI to optimize the use of its IT resources, lower costs and minimize server downtime. The virtualization platform supports DNS servers, DHCP, webmail, an FTP production server for exchanges with KMI customers as well as a server for the Zimbra Collaboration Suite, which provides email, calendar and contact management.

“Thanks to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, we expect to not only be able to realize good cost savings, but also enjoy a very high standard of IT performance, in compliance with our strong open source views,” said Emmanuel Strobbe, systems engineer at KMI. To migrate to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, KMI had to bid farewell to several UNIX and Microsoft Windows servers. Its new Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Servers platform supports KMI's virtual servers that run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows software, such as Windows login-server, Windows domain server with Active Directory and an antivirus server for Windows updates. The hardware consists of a cluster of four Dell PowerEdge R710 servers with EMC NX4 storage.

The switchover to a virtualized infrastructure will be executed in phases and should be completed by the end of 2012. The operational team already uses the new software for weather prediction and experimentation.

Common Criteria is an international set of guidelines (ISO 15408) that provides a common framework for evaluating security features and capabilities of Information Technology (IT) security products, and EAL4+ is the highest assurance level that is recognized globally by all signatories under the Common Criteria Recognition Agreement (CCRA).

Migration from VMware to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Enterprise Linux puts company on path toward significant cost savings

Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that LetterGen NV, a Belgian supplier of document management software, has migrated its virtualized systems from VMware to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. LetterGen expects migrating to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Enterprise Linux to help it reduce costs by over 60 percent, in addition to optimizing systems maintenance and improving services for its customers throughout Europe.

A fast-growing technology company, BTR Services, LetterGen's holding company, was recently ranked 292nd in Deloitte's Technology Fast500 EMEA list. Keen to maintain high growth rates along with its competitiveness, LetterGen required a scalable, stable IT infrastructure that could grow with the company without becoming too costly. The company had previously virtualized a large amount of its IT infrastructure using VMware, but experienced scalability issues and found the solutions hard to manage. Following a period of internal testing, LetterGen was convinced that Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization could satisfy its system requirements to achieve success.

“We made the strategic decision to migrate to Red Hat for a variety of reasons, but in particular, we were impressed by Red Hat’s subscription model that has no high upfront license fees and costs the same each year. We expect the virtualization guest rights included in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscription alone to lead to reduced IT-related costs by over 60 percent,” said Luc Vandergoten, CEO at LetterGen. “By using Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization’s Live Migration feature, the migration to our new infrastructure was swift and stress-free. Our IT team is now able to make efficient use of the virtualization cluster by moving virtual machines from one host to another without affecting performance. In addition, the maintenance management functions enable hosts to be upgraded and maintained while the virtual machines are running. The result has been much less downtime, and much higher availability.”

LetterGen used BTR Services, a Red Hat Advanced Business Partner specializing in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, to handle the migration. BTR Services was able to automatically convert machines from its existing format to the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization format using Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization V2V tools. BTR Services virtualized 95 percent of LetterGen’s infrastructure, including its web servers, file servers based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Active Directory, database servers, JBoss Community projects, as well as the entire development and testing environment. A combination of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 is used on the virtual servers.

“The existing virtualized IT environment at LetterGen was simply not capable of meeting the company’s long-term scalability requirements,” said Vincent Van der Kussen, system engineer, Open Systems at BTR Services. “After an initial demonstration and various internal tests, we were able to demonstrate that all of the functions LetterGen required were available in one package by using Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. It also helped that Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization offered this high level of functionality at a lower price than competitive solutions.”

Collaboration Enables Customers to Build Highly Scalable, Programmable Networks and Foster Rapid Innovation and Deployment of Services

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/22/2012 -- Brocade^® (NASDAQ: BRCD) and NEC Corporation of America (NEC) today announced an expanded collaboration to bring to market combined solutions around Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and OpenFlow switching, including network virtualization.

Brocade and NEC will jointly market solutions for network virtualization, large-scale data center infrastructure management, traffic engineering and Wide Area Network (WAN) flow management, with an open standards-based approach. Brocade and NEC will market these high-value solutions built around Brocade's OpenFlow-enabled products and NEC's award-winning Programmable Flow Controller.

As part of the collaboration, Brocade and NEC are committing to ongoing certification, interoperability and solution validation testing. To this end, Brocade and NEC will establish joint solution labs in key regional offices to test and demonstrate their solutions. The current Brocade and NEC OpenFlow-enabled products successfully completed interoperability testing in 2011.

Brocade and NEC are collaborating on technology and implementation alignment, including OpenFlow standards, tunnel technology and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to help ensure ongoing innovation and seamless deployment by joint customers.

Brocade and NEC recently demonstrated their technology and joint solutions at the Open Networking Summit 2012 in Santa Clara, California and Interop, Las Vegas. Additional demonstrations are planned for upcoming industry events, including Interop Tokyo (June 13 to 15, 2012).

Software-Defined Networking and OpenFlow Solutions
 In June 2010, Brocade was one of the first major networking vendors to publicly endorse OpenFlow, which is a major component of a new approach to networking called SDN. SDN involves several components, including standards-basedOpenFlow, which delivers to service providers and network operators granular control of their network infrastructures. Brocade delivers OpenFlow capabilities across its high-performance switching and routing products, enabling flow control up to 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) speeds.
