CUSTOMER WIN: State of Connecticut to Consolidate IT Operations with BMC Software, Saves Taxpayer Dollars

Solution enables increased government efficiency

NEW YORK CITY, August 1, 2012 – With rampant budget deficits impacting all manner of public services, state governments are under enormous pressure to get the most value from taxpayer money. Every dollar counts.
The State of Connecticut has made those dollars stretch even further. A recent gubernatorial initiative to eliminate redundant tech support systems and create a powerful consolidated network will help the state achieve new levels of internal efficiencies and cost savings. Len Smith, director of enterprise planning and architecture within Connecticut’s Department of Administrative Service’s Bureau of Enterprise Systems and Technology (DAS/BEST), identified several state agencies that were actively evaluating service management solutions in the marketplace. Smith recognized this as an opportunity to provide a single, statewide solution. The state agency concluded that the BMC FootPrints solution would help these agencies avoid creating a costly and inefficient decentralized IT service management model.
The Challenge
“State agencies were using independent service desk solutions, which made it difficult to streamline processes and implement best practices across agencies,” said Smith. “Our goal is to implement an integrated, centralized solution capable of delivering more effective and efficient IT services throughout the state.”

To achieve this goal, Connecticut selected BMC Software to implement a single IT service management solution for state agencies.
