SAP and Samsung Expand Partnership to Make Android Devices Enterprise-Secure for Millions of Mobile Users

SAP News Release:

SAP and Samsung Expand Partnership to Make Android Devices Enterprise-Secure for Millions of Mobile Users

SAP NEWSBYTE - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced expanded Samsung For Enterprise (SAFE) Certification for the industry-leading1 SAP Afaria mobile device management solution. SAFE certified devices are guaranteed to have met Samsung's security criteria and feature enhancements suitable for business use. When SAFE devices are managed by SAP Afaria, businesses will be able to effectively manage and secure large numbers of disparate users, bringing their own devices into the workplace from the most widely deployed enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution in the industry. The announcement was made at Mobile World Congress 2013, being held in Barcelona, Spain, February 25-28, where SAP is located at Hall 7, 7C70.
According to Gartner, Samsung commands over 42.5 percent of the Android market globally, making them the clear leader.2 The enterprise-specific features of the SAFE program strengthen SAP's ability to deepen enterprise integration and support for the mobile devices most widely used by consumers and businesses. SAFE devices provide enhanced IT security protection through various policy groups such as Application Policy, Exchange Active Sync IT Policy, Encryption Policy, Native Email Policy, Various Restriction Policies (WiFi, USB, SD card, Bluetooth, camera, microphone, clipboard, etc), Location Policy, and more.
SAP Runs Samsung
SAP currently has over 4,000 Samsung devices deployed internally around the world. The benefits of managing Samsung devices through SAP Afaria include unified management of multiple device models, streamlined installation of email accounts and enhanced security policies, including application white/blacks and SD card enablement/encryption.
As the largest SAFE-certified partner, SAP and Samsung continue to work together to address the management and security concerns commonly faced by enterprises using Samsung Android devices. Having co-developed SAFE APIs, SAP supports more SAFE features than any other vendor and has the largest SAFE Samsung Android deployments globally. The next step in the companies' planned collaboration is in Samsung KNOX, an end-to-end secure solution that provides security hardening from the hardware through to the application layer. The KNOX retains full compatibility with Android and the Google ecosystem, while engineering fundamental security and management enhancements, including its unique application container technology which enables enterprises to support both BYOD and Corporate-Liable models without compromising corporate security or employee privacy. Samsung KNOX will build on the foundation of the SAFE Certification and provide users enhanced security at all levels of the Android platform.

Micron News Release:

Micron Announces Tokyo District Court Approval of Elpida Reorganization Plan

BOISE, Idaho, Feb. 28, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:MU) ("Micron") today announced the Tokyo District Court's issuance of an order approving Elpida Memory Inc.'s plan of reorganization. Elpida's plan of reorganization calls for Micron to sponsor Elpida's reorganization under which Elpida will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Micron. The Tokyo District Court's approval follows an Elpida creditor vote, concluded on Feb. 26, in which the creditors voted to approve the reorganization plan.

"We are very pleased with the Tokyo District Court's approval of Elpida's plan of reorganization. This is an important milestone that brings us a significant step closer to Micron and Elpida becoming the world's second largest memory company with the strongest product portfolio in the industry," said Micron CEO Mark Durcan.

The closing of the transaction remains subject to the satisfaction or waiver of certain conditions—including finalization of the Tokyo District Court's approval order under Japanese bankruptcy rules that could occur as early as four weeks from today presuming no appeal is filed, and recognition of Elpida's reorganization plan by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware (or the completion or implementation of alternative actions providing a substantially similar effect). Elpida and Micron continue to target completion of the transaction in the first half of calendar 2013. Elpida's proposed reorganization plan was submitted to the Tokyo District Court on Aug. 21, 2012, and the Tokyo District Court approved the submission of Elpida's proposed reorganization plan to creditors on Oct. 31, 2012.

The investment builds on the Citrix vision of providing solutions that allow enterprises to embrace employee mobility. Complementary to Citrix cloud and mobile solutions, including the recently-announced Citrix XenMobile™ MDM, the Armor5 technology addresses the growing need for data security and compliance in the mobile enterprise.

As mobile workstyles and cloud services redefine the technology landscape, Citrix believes many of the best ideas will come from early-stage startups with the flexibility to approach enterprise challenges in entirely new ways. The Citrix Startup Accelerator program is part of Citrix Labs, an applied research group that enables Citrix to stay ahead of and adapt to new technology trends.  Focused on entrepreneur-led innovation, the program provides seed investments, office space, and mentorship to select startups from around the world. Companies selected for the program benefit from the global Citrix presence, its entrepreneur-friendly environment, large customer base and seasoned go-to-market strategies. NetSuite delivers the business benefits that Fronde's clients are looking for: advanced functionality, reduced operational IT costs and risks, rapid deployment, speed, and the agility to launch new business operations and subsidiaries quickly, with a faster time to market than on-premise software solutions.

SAP to Join Forces With Intel on Breakthrough “Big Data” Solutions to Improve Competitiveness and Agility of Businesses

SAP News Release:

SAP to Join Forces With Intel on Breakthrough “Big Data” Solutions to Improve Competitiveness and Agility of Businesses

SAP HANA® Platform Will Support the New Intel Distribution of Apache Hadoop to Power Real-Time Insights from Massive Data Sets
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Building on a long relationship of joint collaboration, SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced a technical and business partnership with Intel that will help organizations in data-intensive industries become more competitive and agile by leveraging insights across business operations from all their data assets at the pace of business. The two companies plan to build and bring to market a breakthrough "big data" solution for enterprise customers centered on the SAP HANA® platform and Intel® Distribution for Apache™ Hadoop® software. The combination will integrate innovations and software technologies from SAP, Intel and the open source community to store and analyze in real-time large volumes of structured and unstructured data from across the enterprise. This announcement was made from the Strata Conference, being held February 26-28 in Santa Clara, Calif.
"Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) is inherently batch oriented, as are most Hadoop tools. This imposes fundamental limitations on the speed and frequency with which data can be loaded into or retrieved from HDFS via Hadoop tools," said Philip Russom, research director for Data Management, The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI). "Hadoop workers deal with Hadoop's inherent data latency in a variety of ways. For data that needs on-demand, real-time access, they manage the data in a database management system, whenever possible."
SAP plans to leverage the in-memory technology innovations in SAP HANA as well as Intel's innovations in security, connectivity and management tools for Apache Hadoop to bring a unique solution to market. The planned major technology components of the solution include integral parts of the SAP® Real-time Data Platform, along with Intel Hadoop software.
"SAP is reinventing the information processing landscape with SAP HANA – from business analytics and data warehousing, to enterprise applications and SAP Business Suite, and next to 'big data' with Intel Hadoop," said Franz Faerber, head of Data Management, SAP. "Together, SAP and Intel have a strong vision to bring significant innovations, enterprise IT maturity and go-to market efficiencies that will enable organizations to easily adopt an enterprise-class big data solution."
"The extension of our partnership with SAP will create a well-engineered solution leveraging combined in-memory and processor optimizations," said Boyd Davis, vice president and general manager of the Datacenter Software Division, Intel Corp. "Furthermore, the big data solution from SAP and Intel will provide the necessary enterprise-ready integration, optimization and configuration – right out of the box – that eliminates adoption barriers arising from complexities and expenses involved in making big data solutions enterprise-ready."
A recent survey by TDWI indicates that 62 percent of enterprises indicate inadequate staffing or skills for big data analytics as a major barrier to adoption of technologies like Hadoop¹. The combined solution will enable enterprises to continue to use the tools and expertise they already have in-house. Furthermore, customers across many industries, including retail, financial services and telecommunications, can expect significant benefits from integrating Hadoop into operational systems.
The partnership with Intel intends to extend the SAP ecosystem of existing partnerships and previously announced innovations around big data. While certain intellectual property assets created specifically for the big data solution would remain proprietary to SAP, some key innovations are planned to be contributed back to the Hadoop open source community and the SAP ecosystem of big data partners.
Upcoming phases of the big data solution from SAP and Intel are planned to enable integrated query processing, optimized data loading, and unified administration.
