Dow Water & Process Solutions Taps IBM Cloud for New Customer App

IBM cloud allows for fast and effective water treatment modeling
ARMONK, N.Y. - 13 Nov 2014: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS), a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), has selected an IBM Cloud solution to deploy a new customer application that will provide accurate water quality predictions for single or multiple unit water treatment designs utilizing DW&PS technologies.
DW&PS is a leading filtration, purification and separation technology supplier, offering a broad portfolio of advanced ion exchange and membrane solutions to businesses, consumers, industries and municipalities around the world. The company has developed a new software application called Water Application Value Engine (WAVE) that will help engineers rapidly iterate results of various water treatment components in their designs. To support their global engineering customers, DW&PS needed the ability to quickly scale the application and make it easily accessible to customers whenever and wherever they choose.
To address this challenge, DW&PS collaborated with IBM, which has been a longtime global IT services provider to The Dow Chemical Company. DW&PS selected an IBM hybrid cloud solution using SoftLayer infrastructure to deploy the new WAVE application. The cloud solution will provide a robust, secure and cost-effective infrastructure that is not only capable of rapidly scaling as customer usage grows, but will also allow customers to access the application via a Web browser on a desktop, tablet or mobile device.
“Dow’s business has been built on a history of continuous innovation, which has resulted in our building one of the industry’s most complete portfolios of solutions for our customers,” said Nanette Hermsen, associate
vertical marketing director for Dow Water and Process Solutions. “As we continue to expand our digital offering, the IBM cloud – with its global network of cloud centers, control and security – has become a step change for our business by enabling us to accelerate the development and global deployment of a new application from many months to a few weeks.”
IBM Interactive Experience is helping design and develop the portal solution for WAVE, which will also incorporate IBM cloud-based collaboration tools to provide DW&PS account managers and technical service representatives with a more interactive way of dealing with customers. DW&PS will introduce the new app with a pilot group of customers later this month.
“IBM is partnering with clients like Dow to enable them to innovate with cloud,” said Philip Guido, General Manager, IBM Global Technology Services, North America. “Dow Water & Process Solutions is among the growing number of global companies that are evolving their IT environment to capitalize on the benefits of greater speed, scalability, accessibility and security delivered by IBM’s global enterprise platform for cloud.”
