Emulex and Gnodal Partner to Deliver Solution for High Frequency Trading Environments
Solution Delivers More Than 50 Percent Less Latency Compared to Other Industry Standard 10Gb Ethernet Networks
SUPERCOMPUTING, SALT LAKE CITY, and COSTA MESA, Calif., November 13, 2012 – Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced a partnership with Gnodal, a provider of high-speed 10 and 40Gb Ethernet (40GbE) network switches, to deliver a solution that eliminates network congestion and provides industry-leading low latency, addressing the needs of high frequency trading (HFT) environments. The Emulex OneConnect® 10GbE Network Xceleration™ (NX) OCe12000-D adapters, with FastStack™ DBL software, powered by Myricom, and a Gnodal GS4008 10GbE switch, enable lower latency by as much as 57 percent in User Datagram Protocol (UDP) testing, and by as much as 47 percent in Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) testing, when compared to a standard 10GbE switch.1
“Network congestion avoidance is a key issue in today’s cloud-based world. However, it is especially prevalent for latency-sensitive traders dealing in HFT, where milliseconds of reaction time can mean the difference between a buy or a sell for a trader,” said Shaun Walsh, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development, Emulex. “Recent Emulex Labs testing revealed that the Emulex/Gnodal solution reduces this latency by about half,1 unlocking faster transactional performance, which is crucial to the HFT market.”
The Emulex OCe12000 combined with FastStack DBL software delivers industry-leading performance by accelerating UDP and TCP communication in HFT environments over industry-standard 10GbE network and IP protocols, and features:
- Low Latency Performance: FastStack DBL kernel bypass operation delivers super low latency performance and high bandwidth, enabling faster transactional performance in HFT environments.
- Transparent Acceleration: Superior performance combined with ease of integration, accelerates existing Linux and Windows sockets applications without software modifications.
- Flexible Architecture: FastStack DBL combined with FastStack Sniffer10G with lossless packet capture, creates a complete HFT platform, achieving superior financial transaction performance, and the enablement to support fine-tuning the decision models and algorithms that power their HFT trading software.
“The Emulex FastStack DBL network acceleration software is an ideal complement to Gnodal switches, which are purpose-built for high performance computing (HPC) environments, while achieving ultra-low latency processing, even among multi-switch deployments that leverage a Gnodal fabric solution,” said Atchison Frazer, CMO, Gnodal. “For automated trading systems, low latency performance has a direct correlation to how fast trades can be executed and we’re confident the Emulex/Gnodal offering is the ideal solution to address the needs of this demanding market.”
Emulex and Gnodal will be demonstrating this solution at Supercomputing this week, November 12 – 15, in Salt Lake City, in booth #632.
