Nuance Swype on Google Play Expands Global Availability

Swype Expands Reach across Africa, Europe and Southeast Asia with Support for Eight New Languages, Hotwords for Polish and Arabic, as well as More Accurate Next Word Prediction and Improved Dragon Dictation Experience

Burlington, MA – May 31, 2013 – Nuance Communications, Inc. today announced updates to its successful living, learning Swype keyboard for Android smartphones and tablets that brings Swype to even more consumers around the world – specifically Africa, Europe and Southeast Asia. Swype’s latest round of updates also features an improved Dragon Dictation experience and even faster next word prediction.
Swype is the most personal, powerful and customizable four-in-one keyboard for Android, allowing people to quickly glide their finger from one letter to the next to input text – or simply tap, speak or handwrite letters, numbers and symbols. Just one month after its debut on Google Play, Swype is rapidly expanding its language support. Swype is now available in 65 downloadable languages and offers eight all new languages including Afrikaans, Irish, Sesotho, Sundanese, Swahili, Xhosa, Zuluo and Javanese to give people in Africa, Europe, and Southeast Asia the ability to transform their input experience with Swype’s unmatched continuous touch technology that started it all.
Swype has also increased dialect support to 22 languages and is bringing the power of its crowd-sourced Hotwords feature to its Polish and Arabic keyboard users, so trending words in phrases in each of those languages will automatically become available as part of their personalized language database.
“The response to Swype’s debut on Google Play has been amazing – propelling Swype to the number one new paid app in just three days,” said Aaron Sheedy, vice president of text input, Nuance Mobile. “And we’re committed to continuously expanding Swype’s innovations. This latest update brings Swype to new regions of the world and expands our crowd-sourcing capabilities – ultimately getting the most powerful keyboard for Android into the hands of even more millions of people worldwide.”

      • Updated French, German, Russian, Italian and Spanish databases and word models
