Mellanox Delivers Open Ethernet Switch Abstraction Interface
Mellanox Open Ethernet™ switch systems add Switch Abstraction Interface for application integration over generic, open interface
SAI is the common software Application Programming Interface (API), which is in specification by the Open Compute Project (OCP), and is targeted at forming a common, hardware-agnostic, unified API for Ethernet switches. By utilizing the generic interface provided by SAI as a common interface, applications and protocol stacks can operate seamlessly over any compatible switching hardware platform.
"Mellanox, through our Open Ethernet initiative, promotes the freedom to choose best fit hardware and software switching platforms and encourages other vendors to join such initiatives," said Gilad Shainer , vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies . "By working in the OCP community and delivering the SAI generic API, our customers gain access to the first hardware platform to allow integration of their own switching software solutions."
"The common specification provided by Mellanox's addition of the Switch Abstraction Interface to its Open Ethernet switch system promotes the freedom to choose the best fit switching hardware and software," said Yousef Khalidi , Distinguished Engineer, Microsoft Azure. "We're excited to work with the new platforms enabled by this addition."
