CA ARCserve r16 Beats Symantec Backup Exec 2012 in Head-to-Head Comparative Review

Earns Network Testing Labs World Class Award for Best Data Protection and Business Continuity, Significantly Outperforms in Every Category
ISLANDIA, July 30, 2012 – CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today announced that
CA ARCserve® has earned the Network Testing Labs (NTL) “World Class Award” for best data protection and business continuity by significantly outperforming  Symantec™ Backup Exec™ 2012 in every category of a recent comparative review.

The review reveals that CA ARCserve is more feature-complete and more reliable, costs less, scales better and is far easier to use.  It also supports more OS platforms, works with more virtual environments and cloud vendors, and integrates with more applications.  And it excels at providing maximum uptime and availability for critical servers and applications, according to the review, which was commissioned by CA Technologies and conducted by NTL, a leading independent technology research and product evaluation firm.
“In addition to an overall comparison, our test took a close look at the capabilities of CA ARCserve and Symantec Backup Exec around image-based backup, file-based backup, and replication/high availability,” said Barry Nance, president of Network Testing Labs, who has evaluated thousands of hardware and software products for publications like Computerworld, BYTE Magazine, Government Computer News, PC Magazine, Network Computing, and Network World.  “We recommend CA ARCserve without reservation, and if fact, use it in our own shop.”
The report revealed gaps in the Symantec feature set, stating that “Backup Exec 2012 lacks replication, Continuous Data Protection and High Availability capabilities” found in CA ARCserve, and that “Symantec’s recent substantial enhancements to Backup Exec 2012 fall short of CA ARCserve’s basic feature set.”
The report states that Symantec charges extra for deduplication, archiving, Active Directory granular restore and synthetic full backup – features that CA Technologies includes in its basic product.
“Customers don’t want complex, hard-to-predict pricing as they put together the data protection solutions they need to protect their critical data,” said Steve Fairbanks, vice president, Data Management, CA Technologies. “With CA ARCserve r16, CA Technologies clearly delivers a very complete solution in a user-friendly package that offers coherent, predictable pricing.”
