PSA Peugeot Citroën and IBM to Launch “Connected Services” for the Car of the Future
PSA Peugeot Citroën Taps IBM Big Data and Analytics and MobileFirst Solutions to Provide Drivers with Customized Services
Armonk, N.Y., and Paris - 25 Mar 2014: PSA Peugeot Citroën today announced plans to use IBM (NYSE: IBM) Big Data and Analytics and IBM MobileFirst solutions to launch a new era of connected vehicles that deliver customized services.
The rapid adoption of mobile devices is redefining customer expectations in all areas of life, including transportation. The need to be constantly connected is transforming the relationship between car owners and manufacturers beyond the driving experience. To meet changing customer expectations requires new, innovative connected services.
The challenge for car manufacturers is to integrate value brought by processing and analyzing real-time data from the connected vehicle. Automobiles today deliver millions of points of valuable information while connected devices such as mobile phones play an integral role in people’s lives.
PSA Peugeot Citroën's and IBM are working together to integrate the massive amounts of data from cars, phones, traffic signals, lights and other sources and analyze it in real-time to deliver on the promise of the connected vehicle. "This innovation and collaboration with IBM is expected to offer new and essential services for both drivers and passengers," said Brigitte Courtehoux, Director of Cars and Connected Services Business Unit for PSA Peugeot Citroën.
PSA Peugeot Citroën's expertise in the auto industry combined with IBM’s Big Data and Analytics and IBM MobileFirst solutions will enable the French manufacturer to offer a range of "connected services" to its clients, allowing them to use numerous access channels such as websites, vehicles data, customer service or mobile applications. They will now also be able to access other sources of vehicle data and customer service information such as, among many other possibilities, a better weather precision via onboard sensors of temperature, lights, and windshield wipers from Peugeot Citroën's cars.
The solutions developed by IBM and PSA Peugeot Citroën will bring real-time customized services to drivers. PSA Peugeot Citroën's Connected Vehicle project will provide high value applications for business-to-consumer and business-to-business clients and automotive systems.
“We are proud to offer the best of IBM to support PSA Peugeot Citroën in its new challenge,” said Dirk Wollschläger, General Manager, Global Automotive Industry at IBM. “This technology chosen by PSA Peugeot Citroën will allow the company to customize every service to each driver and passenger regarding their expectations and the driving conditions.”
