EMC World 2012 – LAS VEGAS- May 21, 2012
News Summary
- New EMC Atmos® enhancements deliver breakthroughs in simplifying the way service providers and enterprises manage large, globally distributed environments.
- Manage 100 PB cloud as a single system across distributed sites; Greater than 50 percent faster performance for large objects; 3x improved system visibility with expanded monitoring for globally distributed storage environments; 90 percent reduced upgrade time – with no service disruption.
- New Atmos Cloud Accelerators provide new methods of simplifying cloud adoption and transform service provider and enterprise cloud access by making it easier for end users, developers, and applications to use an Atmos-based cloud. Cloud Accelerators enable users to work in their native environment, expand functionality for developers, and make it easier to move traditional applications to the cloud.
Technology Highlights
- Enhancements for Global Scale Efficiencies: 50 percent read/write performance improvement for large objects; improved network throughput, data rebalancing, and redistribution across globally distributed environments. 3x improvements in system visibility to a global system with hundreds of nodes; new alerting, logging, and data consolidation capabilities; faster node evacuation and drive replacement; aggregated logging and reporting features; and improved visibility into overall system health and performance. 90 percent improvement in upgrade times for fast expansion and evolution of globally distributed systems while minimizing maintenance windows and providing non-disruptive upgrades; improved upgrade processing technology allows enterprises and service providers to remain 100 percent accessible to customers as they are today, but reduces the IT maintenance window when moving to new releases.
- New Cloud Accelerators enable end users to work in their native environment by offering expanded web browser plug-ins, including Atmos Chrome and HTML5. End users can now access Atmos GeoDrive for Windows in their own native language. GeoDrive for Windows is available in nine languages. Developers will have more tools to assist in Web-enabling applications. Offers new mobile platform support for Android, along with a new API for secure on-time upload/download capabilities using anonymous tokens. Atmos now provides the ability to name objects and delivers a web services capacity management feature for quota enablement. Atmos makes it easier to move traditional applications to the cloud. With enhanced content addressed storage (CAS) metadata support, additional metadata from EMC Centera content is applied when migrating to Atmos, providing additional policy capabilities, and also enables bulk ingest of legacy files into Atmos using AtmosSync, an open source migration tool.
