Charter and Cisco Enter Agreement in Support of Charter's Breakthrough Next-Gen Video Solution

PRESS RELEASE

Charter and Cisco Enter Agreement in Support of Charter's Breakthrough Next-Gen Video Solution

Cisco Will Serve as a Key ‘Worldbox' Supplier Through 2015, including Downloadable Conditional Access System (DCAS) and Digital Rights Management Solutions

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, CES 2015, January 6, 2015 – Cisco and Charter Communications, Inc. announced today that the two companies have entered into a strategic agreement through which Cisco will supply key products in support of Charter's breakthrough next-generation video solution. The products will include Cisco's cloud-based security suite, including downloadable security solution (DCAS) for set-top boxes, and seamless digital rights management (DRM) solution to support video services on a range of IP devices. Cisco will supply a substantial share of Charter's next-generation ‘Worldbox' volume and will continue to supply CableCARD boxes until Charter migrates all current and acquired systems to the downloadable security solution.
The two companies will host a private press and analyst reception today at CES 2015 in Las Vegas to showcase Charter's new solution and Cisco's key contributions for the first time. The breakthrough Worldbox can act as a thin client that can be updated via cloud software and incorporates a cloud-driven user interface (UI) to deliver new features and experiences to Charter subscribers. Charter will also showcase the Spectrum Guide, a new, cloud-based, state-of-the-art user interface that will work on any deployed set-top box in Charter's footprint.
"Cisco shares Charter's vision of the future of network architecture, where our network's intelligence is located in the cloud rather than in devices at the edge," said Tom Rutledge, President and CEO of Charter Communications.  "We are excited that Cisco will be a key supplier of the Charter Worldbox, and that their Downloadable Security Solution and Digital Rights Management solutions will be part of Charter's  next-generation, cloud-based video solution."
"Cisco greatly values our enduring partnership with Charter," said Cisco chairman and CEO John Chambers. "We are proud to join Charter today to showcase the leading edge IP and cloud-based video solutions they are developing, and the Cisco products at their core. Charter's new video solution, featuring cloud-driven video experiences offered across many devices will be a huge win for Charter subscribers."
Charter expects to deploy downloadable security to its current systems this year and will then continue deployment to acquired systems. The downloadable security solution has been a multi-year effort involving multiple cable vendors. The downloadable security solution is an open solution, which has been ported to multiple vendors' CPE. It interoperates with in-place proprietary conditional access system implementations, facilitating efficient footprint wide rollout across different cable video network architectures. Downloadable security allows current and future vendors worldwide to supply ‘Worldboxes' to Charter. Charter is currently working with vendors towards manufacturing compatible boxes for the retail market as well, with the expectation that these devices will function in other cable systems using downloadable security solution.
Charter will offer both an HD only and an HD-DVR ‘Worldbox' featuring dual IP/QAM capabilities, configurable up to 16 tuners, a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, 1 Gig of RAM, high-powered USB to enable future applications, and a terabyte of storage on the HD-DVR.  Charter expects to launch its new fully featured cloud based user interface, Spectrum Guide on Worldboxes, as well as on legacy boxes currently deployed within the Charter footprint. The Spectrum Guide features intuitive search and discovery capabilities with attractive graphics and TV and movie poster art that provides customers an enhanced state-of-the-art experience.

IBM Introduces New Class of Network Security Appliance to Help Control Social Media and Web Browsing Risks

Press release:

IBM Introduces New Class of Network Security Appliance to Help Control Social Media and Web Browsing Risks

Advanced threats, rapid adoption of social media, and Web applications drive need for new, intelligent approach to security
ARMONK, N.Y. - 31 Jul 2012: As employee access to the Web has become ubiquitous, enterprises are struggling with massive increases in malware as well as Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), which can compromise proprietary data. Many of today's security solutions often offer limited visibility and control over network activity, which can put the company at risk.
To help clients proactively protect against evolving security threats, including those posed by social media sites and malicious websites, IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced a new class of network security appliance that delivers a more granular view of a company’s security posture and a simplified security management interface. This new next-generation intrusion prevention appliance helps clients address advanced attacks targeting their organization, providing visibility into exactly what applications are being used on the network, where users are going on the Web, with the ability to monitor and control this activity, which can result in improved security and reduced operational costs.
Unprecedented Application Visibility
Many enterprises today, armed with legacy tools to protect themselves, are often not prepared to face the continuously evolving threat landscape. IBM Security Network Protection XGS 5000 is a next-generation intrusion protection system specifically designed to address the constantly evolving, increasingly sophisticated threats that organizations face today. It builds on the proven, core security features found in IBM Security Network Intrusion Prevention System, including helping protect against “zero-day” exploits, by adding new levels of visibility and control over the network, applications, data and users to help improve security by helping prevent misuse and identify previously undetectable threats.
IBM Security Network Protection incorporates global threat intelligence from X-Force, including a Web filter database of over 15 billion URLs – capable of monitoring and categorizing millions of Web servers and applications each day to provide superior protection against the changing threat landscape. Once organizations are aware of the nature of activity on their network, the new application control features enable clients to have granular control over what is happening on their network; this means granular user and group-level control over which applications and Websites are permitted, and how they are used down to individual actions or activities within these applications and sites.
With IBM Security Network Protection, clients can:
·     Immediately discover which applications and Web sites are being accessed
·     Identify misuse by application, Website, and user
·     Enforce security policies with granular, intelligent application-level controls
This visibility is greatly increased via integration with IBM’s Advanced Threat Protection Platform, which utilizes anomaly detection and event correlation capabilities to better address more complex attacks such as Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs). IBM Security customers can also choose tightly integrated solutions that use optimized security products and Security Intelligence tools, including analytics. In addition, IBM's Managed Security Services can provide constant monitoring and management of a customer's IT environment to augment or replace in-house expertise.
"IBM Security Network Protection gives us a better view of our security posture and what is taking place on our network,” said Peter Param, Manager of Network and Security, from St. Vincent’s Hospital in Australia. “With more than 1,000 distinct users, as well as sizable traffic from streaming video and social media sites, knowing which employees are authorized to access particular sites throughout the day, as well as knowing which applications are being used on our network, is critical in optimizing it as well as increasing our security posture.”
The IBM Security Network Protection XGS 5000 is the newest addition to IBM’s Advanced Threat Protection Platform, one of the most comprehensive, integrated threat protection systems on the market. The solution helps protect against network-based threats masked in common network traffic, and prevents attackers from exploiting vulnerabilities at the network, host and application layers.
“The escalation of targeted attacks and rapid adoption of mobility, cloud and social media requires companies to take a new approach to securing the enterprise," said Brendan Hannigan, General Manager, IBM Security Systems Division. "IBM is uniquely positioned to help our customers address these challenges with our new Advanced Threat Protection Platform that combines total security intelligence from within the enterprise, exhaustive external threat intelligence and the new XGS appliance that delivers fine-grained activity detection and control.”
IBM Security’s Advanced Threat Protection Platform helps clients by providing the following features and capabilities:
·     Proven security to help protect against zero-day threats: enables preemptive protection against a full spectrum of advanced threats, including Web application attacks and exploits hidden in files. IBM’s protection engine is built upon years of security intelligence gathered byX-Force Research, and can stop entire classes of attacks – including new and unknown threats – without updates; most solutions available today match individual protection signatures - a process that can be too slow to stop evolving threats and can result in higher rates of false positives and false negatives.
·     Visibility and insight: provides application awareness, monitoring and control, with high level dashboards for drilling down into events and reporting. Also provides deep insight into the nature of activities on the network through broad application awareness and flow data analysis. Integrates with QRadar Security Intelligence Platform to provide even greater levels of insight including anomaly detection and event correlation.
·     Control: utilizes intelligence related to Web applications, Websites, and non-Web applications, including Web application and Web site coverage with over 15 Billion URLs across 68 categories and support for 1000+ applications and actions.
Availability
IBM Security Network Protection XGS 5000 is available 3Q12.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Launches Trust Center

Press release:

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Launches Trust Center
July 23, 2012
Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online becomes first cloud CRM service to register with CSA STAR.
REDMOND, Wash. — July 23, 2012 — Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq “MSFT”) today announced the availability of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Trust Center, a website that provides in-depth information about the privacy and security practices for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Onlineservice. As data security and compliance are critical key considerations for organizations evaluating cloud services, the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Trust Center delivers to customers and potential customers high-level information about the privacy, transparency, independent verification and security features of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online.
This follows Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online’s registration with the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) Security, Trust & Assurance Registry (STAR) program, making Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online the first cloud CRM service to provide this level of transparency. Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online joins Microsoft Office 365 and Windows Azure with their Trust Centers and CSA STAR registrations, underscoring Microsoft’s commitment to customers’ data security and privacy.
“Customers have to be confident that their business solutions are meeting their high-level security features and privacy needs. The Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Trust Center ensures transparency in how we operate Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online and handle these critical customer needs,” said Dennis Michalis, general manager, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft Corp. “Our customers need business solutions they can depend on, and the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Trust Center helps remove some of the anxiety they may have as they consider going to the cloud.”
Gartner Inc. in the research report “Look Before You Leap Into Cloud Computing,” published May 25, 2012, predicts that “by year-end 2016, more than 50 percent of Global 1000 companies will have stored customer-sensitive data in the public cloud.” And it adds, “many enterprises are reaping great benefits from cloud computing, primarily in added business agility and cost savings .… However, as with any significant new form of technology, many eager new customers rush to take advantage of it before all the risks and risk mitigations have been fully explored.”
“Enterprises should ensure that potential cloud service providers are trustworthy in areas of security, privacy and operational characteristics,” said Gene Phifer, vice president distinguished analyst, Gartner. “Enterprises should perform due diligence on potential cloud service providers through the use of emerging cloud standards, certifications, cloud services brokers, questionnaires and interviews, and by generally ‘doing your homework.’ Transparency in a cloud vendor is key and security should be as big of a concern with online deployments as with on-premises deployments.”
Designed to offer the performance, scalability, security and service levels organizations expect, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online has built-in capabilities for compliance with a wide range of regulations and privacy mandates, including EU Safe Harbor, EU Model Clauses, ISO 27001, SSAE 16 SOC 1 Type II, and HIPAA-HITECH.
The Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Trust Center is available at http://crm.dynamics.com/trust-center. Those who want to follow and engage with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Twitter community can do so at @MSDynamicsCRM, using #MSDYNCRM and #CRM2011.

Oracle Announces Oracle Privileged Account Manager

Oracle Press Release

Oracle Announces Oracle Privileged Account Manager

Advanced Administrative and Provisioning Capabilities Streamline Password Management for High Risk Accounts and Increase Security

Redwood Shores, Calif. – July 19, 2012

News Facts

Oracle today announced Oracle Privileged Account Manager to help customers efficiently comply with regulatory requirements, secure critical applications and sensitive data, and lower operational costs.
The latest addition to Oracle Identity Management 11g Release 2, a key component of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g, Oracle Privileged Account Manager provides customers with the ability to easily and safely manage passwords for shared or administrative accounts associated with business applications, middleware, databases and operating systems.
Typically an enterprise data center can have hundreds of shared accounts, bringing an additional level of security concerns as shared accounts provide elevated system access often to highly sensitive information and can be accessed by multiple sources with little way to audit their usage back to any individual.
By combining advanced policy-based and automated password management capabilities with comprehensive auditing and reporting features, Oracle Privileged Account Manager delivers highly-secure and simplified password administration to shared accounts, while further streamlining identity compliance reporting.
As a part of Oracle Identity Governance and integrated into Oracle Identity Management 11g Release 2, Oracle Privileged Account Manager can also significantly reduce identity management costs, deployment times and audit deficiencies.

Integrated Best-in-Class Access Management

With Oracle Privileged Account Manager, administrators can easily manage and provision access to every layer of company information and data. Features in Oracle Privileged Account Manager include:
Policy-Based Password Check-Out/Check-In: A Web-based user interface allows administrators to request access to administrative accounts, eliminating the manual logging and tracking of passwords.
Integration with Oracle Identity Manager 11g: Streamlines password management by enabling Oracle Privileged Account Manager to use the same workflow approvals for account requests and automatically provision access with the same connectors.
Automatic Password Change: With Oracle Identity Manager 11g connectors available for Unix/Linux, Database and LDAP systems, Oracle Privileged Account Manager supports virtually any application -- improving security and reducing the risk of fraud by automatically changing passwords after administrator check-ins.
Comprehensive Auditing and Reporting: Tight integration with Oracle Identity Manager 11g and Oracle Identity Analytics 11g provides a common approach and simplifies compliance reporting.

Supporting Quote:

“With increasing complexity and the need for tight policy controls, managing passwords for shared and administrative accounts can be a very time consuming and expensive process,” said Amit Jasuja, vice president of development, Security and Identity Management at Oracle. “Oracle Privileged Account Manager reduces the administrative burden while enabling customers to benefit from simplified, highly-secure management of shared and administrative accounts. The combination can significantly reduce identity costs and improve security by protecting sensitive data from unauthorized parties.”

Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Helps Videotron Improve its Security and Streamlines Password Management

Oracle Press Release

Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Helps Videotron Improve its Security and Streamlines Password Management

Redwood Shores, Calif. – July 11, 2012

News Facts

To streamline its business processes and improve IT operational efficiency, Videotron, a Canadian integrated communications company, deployed Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Suite Plus across its entire enterprise including remote and mobile users.
Prior to using Oracle, Videotron’s help desk was consumed with at least 20 percent of its call volume related to forgotten passwords, which created significant employee downtime and heightened frustration for both the end user and the help desk administrators.
Using Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On, a key component of Oracle Identity Management 11g, Videotron’s users gained access to all of their authorized applications through a single authentication event with an initial network login and were also provided self-service password management in the case they forgot that one password.
In just four months, Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On was implemented across more than 75 applications for Videotron’s 6,000 users.
The deployment included all components of the Suite including Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Password Reset, Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Logon Manager and Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Kiosk Manager.
Within two months of completing its deployment, Videotron realized significant improvement with more than 29,000 passwords authenticated per day by Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On instead of individual, manual entries.

Supporting Quote

“We were very concerned with the amount of passwords our employees had to manage and the impact on both our security and productivity,” said Alain Lavoie, Information Security Director at Videotron. “The ease of use of Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On allowed us to see results almost immediately with increased end user productivity and decreased help desk costs.”

PRESS RELEASES

HEIGHTENED SECURITY IN NEW ANDROID APP STORE

MOBILE SECURITY LEADER AVG TECHNOLOGIES PARTNERS WITH APP PLATFORM LIVEWIRE MOBILE, INC.

LITTLETON, MASS., and AMSTERDAM - 9 May 2012 - Livewire Mobile, Inc., (otcmarkets: LVWR), the one-stop digital content solutions provider for carriers, consumer device manufacturers, media companies, and consumers, and AVG Technologies (NYSE: AVG), the provider of Internet and mobile security to approximately 108 million active users, today launched an initiative in which AVG will provide advanced security checks to apps delivered from Livewire hosted Android app stores for mobile network operators and handset manufacturers.
With concerns increasing around the potential security dangers for smartphone users, the two companies intend to use AVG’s innovative technology to help users protect themselves from potential malware and viruses.
Livewire Mobile has extensive relationships with Android app developers around the world and will host and manage the new app stores on its industry leading Daius digital content platform.
Livewire Mobile, in collaboration with AVG, is now working with its developer community to curate and deliver security-screened app stores for customers around the world. Every app being offered to consumers in Livewire’s app stores will be pre-screened by AVG’s technology. Additionally, once a user downloads an app from one of Livewire’s secure app stores, every app update following the initial download will be similarly screened on the device using AVG’s Mobilation® for Android security solution. Mobilation, will be made available free of charge to every user to complete the process.
"Our platform hosts and manages mobile entertainment services for mobile network operators, handset manufacturers and media companies worldwide," said Livewire Mobile COO Dave Moreau. “We believe that while Google has made great advances in providing security for Google Play, malware and viruses are still an important challenge for smartphone users worldwide. The solution we have put together with AVG provides an innovative ’clean‘ service for consumers and helps MNOs and handset manufacturers deliver on their duty of care to their subscribers. AVG is a leading provider of internet and mobile security – what better way to protect consumers than providing them with AVG’s powerful technology?"
"The growing use of mobile devices to connect to social networks and entertainment services has made it a preferred method for cyber criminals to spread malware," said JR Smith, CEO of AVG Technologies. "Our AVG Q1 2012 Community Powered Threat Report indicated a major increase in the use of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to target Android users – by tricking them into installing malicious apps. In 2011 alone, Google removed more than 100 malicious apps from the official Android market, Google Play. Our joint initiative with Livewire Mobile will help give Android users peace of mind to use their phone apps to safely interact with their favourite social networks and entertainment services."
AVG and Livewire Mobile are taking part in the Privacy in Mobile Applications Initiative, unveiled last month by the MEF, the global community for mobile content and commerce. The initiative was officially launched at MEF’s inaugural Privacy Summit in Washington DC with the goal to help the global mobile industry build consumer trust when interacting with mobile apps.
Rimma Perelmuter, MEF Executive Director, said: "We welcome such thought leadership from two of our members. It’s essential the mobile ecosystem works together to address issues around consumer trust. Both the recently announced privacy initiative and our on-going initiative work around security in M-commerce support the wider industry to overcome key barriers to growth and create a trusted environment for consumers."
