SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced the release of the SAP CRM rapid-deployment solution for citizen contact center as part of the SAP Urban Matters program. The solution, now generally available, helps simplify and accelerate the implementation of a government multi-channel contact center, enabling governments to provide services and information to citizens in a consistent manner while providing the highest levels of customer service. The solution also allows governments to more efficiently manage and monitor their organizations and operations.
The SAP CRM rapid-deployment solution for citizen contact center is a combination of software, pre-configured content and pre-defined services specifically tailored for government multi-channel contact centers. The solution supports phone, email, online and chat channels, and is delivered with low upfront cost thanks to fixed-price and timeframe implementation services that mitigate financial risk and uncertainty. As a result of pre-configuration and the rapid-deployment methodology, governments can deploy in less than 12 weeks.
"Governments everywhere are looking for ways to increase efficiency, improve services and get citizens more engaged," said Jens Romaus, senior vice president and global head, Public Services Industry Solutions, SAP. "The rapid deployment of citizen contact center with CRM enables our customers to quickly benefit from superior functionality combined with industry best practices. The SAP CRM rapid-deployment solution for citizen contact center enables governments to increase engagement with citizens, improve efficiency, deliver better services, address social inclusion and become more open. The solution is built using a shared service model concept that enables the core customer relationship management (CRM) capabilities to be reused for future projects, helping further increase return on investment (ROI). SAP has additional public sector solutions for social services, public security, tax and revenue management, citizen services and grantor management that can leverage this framework. Customers can also support social channels and mobile deployments as an extension of the solution as their needs evolve.
"At a time when governments worldwide are grappling with shrinking budgets, there is still a need to improve the level of service to constituents," said Steven Birdsall, senior vice president and general manager, SAP Rapid Deployment solutions. "The SAP CRM rapid-deployment solution for citizen contact center helps to unlock hidden efficiencies and resources through a proven and predictable solution that will deliver benefits in weeks. This modular approach opens a path to ongoing improvements, extending the functionality into new service channels, such as social or mobile, or new business needs, such as analytics."
SAP Rapid Deployment solutions combine pre-configured content, best practices and pre-defined services to quickly deploy a wide gamut of enterprise technology with rapid cost-savings. Enterprises achieve full visibility over their deployments thanks to a defined scope with predictable costs. The average timeframe for a typical deployment is less than 90 days, which helps customers lower the cost of implementation, speed time to value and extend the solution when needed. In addition to this solution, SAP Rapid Deployment solutions are available to public sector customers across the full SAP portfolio, including all environments – on premise, cloud and mobile – to quickly and incrementally adopt new business functionality and innovative solutions for in-memory computing, analytics, mobility and more.

SAP to Extend Country Road Map, Offer Solution Development Kit for SAP Business ByDesign Solution

Press release:

SAP to Extend Country Road Map, Offer Solution Development Kit for SAP Business ByDesign Solution

SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced the second 2012 release of the SAP Business ByDesign solution. The cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution is moving to a quarterly release cycle and is scheduled for availability in four additional countries: Denmark, Italy, Netherlands and Spain. The announcement follows the news of the company's largest SAP Business ByDesign customer win to date with the New South Wales Department of Trade & Investment in Australia.
Additionally, a software development kit (SDK) for SAP Business ByDesign will enable partners and customers to extend solution functionality and build one-off cases for customer-specific requirements. As part of the kit, SAP will provide developers with various capabilities, including Web services, which will allow the newly created partner add-on to exchange information with existing SAP or third-party cloud applications. Reusable building blocks — so called templates — will enable partners to create customer-specific add-ons much faster. Improved usability, including advanced documentation and examples, will help partners understand and start working with the SDK instantly — reducing the need for extensive training. More than 20 partners have already signed the contract, which enables them to begin working with the SDK.
To address increased customer and partner interest in creating country-specific content, SAP will also provide a localization kit to help them fulfill specific local requirements. Some customers have already started to use the kit to build additional country versions for their subsidiaries.
Co-innovation with customers and partners is a key part of the design process of cloud solutions from SAP. To help facilitate this approach, SAP installed an idea forum a year and a half ago for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with a global forum in English following about six month later. The forum serves as an easy-to-use and highly impactful tool for customers and partners to provide requests and ideas for additional functionality. Out of a total of 1,400 entries, SAP has realized 800 and plans to make more available with the new version of SAP Business ByDesign, including:
  • Additional services, manufacturing and distribution functionality: Service industry enhancements, including improved ability to combine both products and services on projects, which links material in sales orders to project tasks. Through this extended functionality, SAP Business ByDesign is planned to support service industries outside of the professional service core. The extended ability to sell service contracts supporting billing, service level agreements, execution and escalations are intended to provide greater support for managed services agreements common in IT, media, marketing and other consulting services. Planned enhancements for manufacturing and distribution include support for customers that manage and track onsite and in-house repair scenarios.
  • Mobile extensibility: SAP intends to enable key users able to customize the view for processes within SAP Business ByDesign on their preferred mobile devices. This will extend the existing standard support for over 15 mobile scenarios, including time and expense, customer relationship management (CRM) and reporting.

SAP Addresses and Simplifies Global Business Travel Woes With Cloud Solution

Press release:

SAP Addresses and Simplifies Global Business Travel Woes With Cloud Solution

As the pain and expenses associated with global business travel continue to increase, companies and business people alike are seeking effective and integrated software to help simplify the end-to-end process. SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced new cooperation with partners and solution providers and increased availability of the SAP Travel OnDemand solution, part of the company's growing portfolio of cloud offerings. The announcement was made at GBTA 2012, being held July 22-25 in Boston.
SAP Travel OnDemand is designed to let financial officers and business travelers deftly handle the end-to-end process of travel and expense management faster and with lower cost while staying in compliance with corporate policies. The cloud-based solution is already available in the U.S. and Germany; 14 additional country-specific versions are now also available, including: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, India, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. Country-specific versions adhere to national tax and statutory requirements, allowing for a seamless user experience for large, multi-national companies.
"Our main criteria was finding a fully integrated, one-stop travel solution, taking us all the way from pre-trip approval and online booking to expense reporting," said Tony Velleca, chief information officer, UST Global. "It also had to be easy to use and mobile. We looked at others, but ultimately SAP is the only one with three decades of experience in this area. SAP Travel OnDemand gave us a trustworthy and effective way to handle one of the most complicated processes in the company."
SAP has widened its ecosystem to offer customers more flexibility to choose leading local providers for their specific business travel needs. Building on its existing ties with Paymetric for payment card industry (PCI) compliance, SAP today announced new collaboration with best-in-breed technology players in areas such as mobile payment processing, smart receipt management and global online booking tools.
  • Smart Receipt Recognition with OpenText: The leader in receipt recognition services, OpenText's solution interprets multi-lingual/multi-currency receipt images sent to SAP Travel OnDemand. It turns the images into machine-readable information and automatically pre-populates the expense report, saving time and reducing steps for busy travelers.
  • Online Booking Tools with e-Travel by Amadeus and cytric by i:FAO: Adding to its existing successful cooperation with GetThere, SAP, is also working with the two leading online booking tools from Amadeus and i:FAO, which can now offer customers even greater flexibility to choose among multiple tools based on their specific requirements, all while staying within the SAP Travel OnDemand system.
  • Mobile Credit Card Payment with AirPlus International: For business travelers short on time, SAP and AirPlus International plan to provide automated, near field communication (NFC) mobile payment processing to help reduce costs and simplify the credit card clearing process on the back-end, while also streamlining and drastically reducing the effort required by the traveler.
Already a leader in on-premise financial and expense management, only SAP provides an integrated travel and expense solution to enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions, including SAP ERP Financials and SAP ERP Human Capital Management. As a standard feature, SAP Travel OnDemand delivers add-ons for the SAP ERP application to the customer's on-premise SAP system that automatically enables the integration from the cloud-based SAP solution.

Oracle Unveils Sun ZFS Backup Appliance for Oracle Engineered Systems

Press release:

Oracle Unveils Sun ZFS Backup Appliance for Oracle Engineered Systems

New Backup Solution Can Deliver up to 4x Faster Restore Performance than NetApp and EMC; Enables Efficient Test and Development on Oracle Database with Hybrid Columnar Compression

Redwood Shores, Calif. – April 30, 2012

News Facts

Oracle today announced the Sun ZFS Backup Appliance, an integrated, high performance backup solution for Oracle engineered systems, including Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud and Oracle SPARC SuperCluster T4-4.
Oracle’s Sun ZFS Backup Appliance delivers up to 20 terabytes per hour full backup and up to 9.4 terabytes per hour full restore throughputs, the fastest published recovery rates among general purpose storage systems for Oracle engineered systems data protection.
The Sun ZFS Backup Appliance’s extremely fast backup throughput is based on backups of unique data, and does not require additional host-side software or CPU resources.
Tested, validated and supported with Oracle engineered systems, Oracle’s Sun ZFS Backup Appliance provides superior speed, simplicity and savings.
The Sun ZFS Backup Appliance can decrease recovery time by up to 4x, compared to published Oracle Database backup performance rates from NetApp and EMC(1).
The Sun ZFS Backup Appliance also offers up to 3.9x lower total cost of ownership (TCO) over a three year period, versus comparable NetApp and EMC Data Domain solutions(2).

Oracle Hardware and Software Engineered Together Provides Superior Data Protection and Return On Investment

The Sun ZFS Backup Appliance helps reduce the risk of failed restores by optimizing availability with predictive self-healing features and a fault management architecture that automatically detects and diagnoses underlying problems. End-to-end data check-summing also automatically checks and repairs corrupted data down to the bit level.
Using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) direct connection via TCP/IP over InfiniBand, the Sun ZFS Backup Appliance is more efficient and cost effective than competitive solutions and can eliminate the need for additional servers and expensive third-party backup software.
The Sun ZFS Backup Appliance also helps eliminate complex and costly changes to data protection procedures by delivering full performance and optimal space savings while implementing Oracle recommended RMAN full and incremental backup procedures.
Oracle Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC) on the Sun ZFS Backup Appliance allows better return on investment through efficient data and system usage. Oracle storage, including the Sun ZFS Storage Appliance, is uniquely able to clone and enable full system operation on HCC-compressed database copies. Snapshots of HCC-compressed tables can be cloned without decompression overhead, and used for test and development, quality assurance, reporting, or additional data protection.
Quick and easy to configure, deploy and manage, Oracle’s Sun ZFS Backup Appliance is available in two configurations, High Performance and High Capacity, and comes pre-racked and cabled, helping to eliminate hardware tuning.
Oracle’s Sun ZFS Backup Appliance is engineered with Oracle’s complete software stack, from Oracle Applications to Oracle Database and Oracle VM, as well as the Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud and Oracle SPARC SuperCluster T4-4.
